Happy almost meteorological fall!

Cool, crisp air from Canada will blow into the country this week, making it feel more like September in the Hudson Valley.

The cool air will last most of the week and come with largely dry conditions. Nighttime temperatures will dip into the 40s — more typical of late September.

Temperatures will dip into the 40s at night in many northern states this week

You can partially thank Hurricane Erin — not just for staying offshore, but for reshuffling pressure patterns in the Northern Hemisphere and allowing cool air to filter southward from polar regions.

For many people, it’s a welcome-but-stark reversal from relentless heat and humidity earlier in the season.

Does it mean that summer is over? Find out in my Hudson Valley fall outlook, which will be released to premium subscribers next weekend 🍂

The week ahead

The week ahead will be cool, comfortable and mostly rain-free in the Hudson Valley. It’s getting a bit dry out there, so some soaking rain wouldn’t hurt — but not this week.

Monday: mostly sunny, probably the warmest day of the week

Tuesday: notably cooler, feeling fall-like

Wednesday: a crisp morning and comfy afternoon

Thursday: cool morning, warm afternoon

Friday: another cold front may bring a chance for a passing shower or t-storm

Saturday-Sunday: probably a dry weekend with comfortable conditions

Looking ahead to the week of Sept. 1 — and the start of school 🏫 — it will probably turn a bit warmer. Drier than normal conditions look likely to continue.

Due to travel, my newsletters may not arrive at their normal time the next few weeks.

Keep an eye out for the fall outlook next weekend!
