A pile of fallen leaves

Pumpkin spice latte season, also known as fall, is nearly here 🎃

Monday, Sept. 1, is considered the start of meteorological fall. But if you’re not quite ready to say summer is over, you can use the astronomical definition: Sept. 22.

Either way, cool weather this past week has given the Hudson Valley an early taste of the season to come.

But, have you noticed warm weather lingering later into the year as time goes on?

The numbers don’t lie: on average, the Hudson Valley has experienced more fall days with high temperatures above 60 (8 extra days), 70 (8 extra days), and 80 (3 extra days) over the last 10 years compared to the 30-year period from 1961 to 1990. There have been three fewer days with freezing temperatures.

You could say that summer weather is lasting longer. Let’s dive in and find out if that trend will continue this year.
