Windy, chilly week ahead

After a week of record warmth, we’ve now flipped the script — the upcoming week will be notably colder and come with a big puff of wind to start 💨

A line of heavy showers and possible thunderstorms will move through the Hudson Valley on Sunday evening (7-11 pm), bringing wind gusts up to 50 mph

Since last Saturday (Nov 7th), there have been four days of record-breaking warmth in the Hudson Valley.

78 degrees on Monday was one day short of being the warmest temperature observed this late in the calendar year. There have been six days this month with high temperatures of at least 70 degrees, tying the November record (records started in 1931).

The upcoming week will take us in an entirely different direction, with windy conditions early and a taste of winter on Wednesday followed by a warmup.

After a sunny day on Monday with a brisk westerly wind, Tuesday will see a weak disturbance move across the region. It will come with the chance for passing rain and wet snow showers, primarily from the late morning through the afternoon.

A few flurries could linger into Tuesday night as an air mass from Canada’s Yukon territory takes hold.

Wednesday will be the season’s coldest day so far and there will be some wind too — leading to a wind chill factor. The dryness of the air may leave your lips chapped and skin dry, so consider balming up! 🧴

“Feels like” temperatures on Wednesday afternoon: around 25 🥶

Temperatures in the teens on Thursday morning will likely make it the region’s coldest since March.

By Friday, a southwesterly wind will be in charge with warmer than average temperatures returning.

Saturday looks alright at this point as high pressure remains in control. By Sunday, a front could approach the region from the west, leading to increased cloud cover and at least a shot at precipitation, although it doesn’t look particularly significant.

Looking ahead to Thanksgiving week, a cold front looks to come through early, giving way to high pressure by turkey day. I’d say the early forecast indication is good 🦃 👍

Now taking a 9k mile deviation from the Hudson Valley, here are a few photos from a warm and sunny New Zealand.

Since we’re in the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are reversed, and summer (rather than winter) starts in December.
