Merry Christmas to all and to all a good morning! ๐
Because Mother Nature never rests, this meteorologist looks after the Hudson Valley (from 8000 miles away ๐) every day of the year, even on Christmas.
This weekโs weather report is a little early and a little shorter than normal as Iโll be traveling over the next week. You can always follow along on Facebook and Twitter for more regular updates or to see pictures from my travel destination ๐๏ธ
In the Hudson Valley, itโs an icy start to Christmas 2021 ๐ง If youโre headed outside for any reason, such as an early morning dog walk ๐ถ, be aware that untreated surfaces will be slippery โ just a little different from the 65 degree Christmas 2020.
The temperature will gradually rise this morning with freezing rain transitioning to plain rain and a high near 40.
Over the next week, the region will sit near a temperature gradient: warmer air to the south and colder air to the north. This will keep the weather pattern relatively busy and changeable from day-to-day. Thereโs bound to be a little wintry precipitation here and there, but no big storms are expected at this time.
Sunday: Partly sunny with highs in the 40s.
Monday: Mostly cloudy and colder. Highs in the mid 30s. A disturbance will approach from the west and probably fizzle out before it reaches the Hudson Valley.
Tuesday: More clouds than sun with highs in the mid 40s. Chance for a wintry mix or rain at night.
Wednesday: Chance for some rain early, then drying out with highs in the 40s.
Thursday: Chance for a bit of rain. Highs in the 40s.
New Yearโs Eve: Partly sunny and colder with highs in the 30s.
Next weekend: Highs in the 30s. Storm possible near or south of the region.
The first half of January will come with waves of chillier air and opportunities for wintry precipitation, but itโs not a pattern thatโs typically associated with blockbuster storms.
