Greetings! 👋
This update has information on wintry weather expected this Wednesday morning and on Friday.
Wednesday ⛸️
A Winter Weather Advisory is currently active (as of Wednesday morning) across the Hudson Valley. Although nothing has fallen yet, this advisory covers the chance for some freezing rain on Wednesday morning.
The current radar imagery is quiet — but precipitation is streaking northward across New Jersey.
This looks to be on a trajectory to enter the Hudson Valley between 6:00-8:00 am, favoring areas east of the river.
With temperatures in the 10s and 20s regionwide, anything that falls will freeze when it comes in contact with an untreated surface.
A cautionary approach would involve school delays this morning, reducing the risk for any unfortunate incidents and assessing the road situation after two hours.
It’s another borderline event, but erring on the side of caution when it comes to ice is the safest bet.
If you’re traveling this morning, leave some extra space between you and the car in front of you.
Friday ❄️
Anecdotally, it seems like many folks are on-board with a Friday snow day. Now it’s up to Mother Nature to play ball.
Here’s the scoop as it stands on Wednesday morning:
What? Snow
When? Starting after 12:00 am Friday, ending before 12:00 pm Friday
How much? A range of 2-4 inches is currently favored, although fine tuning of the forecast will occur over the next 24-36 hours. Indications are that there will be more snow to the south and east and less snow to the north and west.
Temperatures? In the 20s — a powdery snow is likely.
Confidence? Confidence is relatively high for snow on Friday morning, although the exact storm track will dictate whether snowfall ends up on the higher or lower end of the range.
Impact? At the very least, school delays look likely for Friday. School closures are possible and, depending on the intensity and duration of snow on Friday morning, may become probable. Snow may fall steadiest leading up to and during AM bus runs, impacting road conditions during the morning commute. Improved conditions are likely by the afternoon.
Another update will be sent on Thursday morning.
Be safe!
