February is upon us

With February nearly upon us, can we expect any changes to our weather patterns? Or will it be more of the same from January, which was around 3 degrees below average in the Hudson Valley? Read on…
Snowfall amounts from Saturday’s “storm” generally ranged from 3-6 inches with some localized 6-8 inch totals. This pales in comparison to Islip Long Island’s 25 inches or the 31 inches that fell in Stoughton, Massachusetts, south of Boston.
There would have been a 100% chance of no school on Saturday had it been a school day. Maybe I should change my tagline to “CEO of weekend snow”. Oh well, there’s always next time!
For those Hudson Valley residents feeling left out, the good news is that winter is far from over. For those who’ve had enough of the cold and snow, the bad news is that winter is far from over.
For the week ahead, after a cold start, we’ll actually experience some milder air, albeit briefly. Given how cold it’s been, mid-40s might feel like a mini heatwave 🤷🏻♂️
I’m not expecting any snow days to start the week, with dry and increasingly milder weather from Monday-Wednesday.
Things will turn a bit more interesting between Thursday and Friday as an Arctic cold front dives into the central U.S., spawning an elongated wave of low pressure.
The Hudson Valley will probably spend most of Thursday on the “warm” side of the storm. However, from Thursday night into Friday, cold air has the potential to spill in from Canada while precipitation is ongoing.
While the odds aren’t spectacular at the moment, I’d put a chip or two on Friday as a day of interest 🎰

High pressure looks likely to move back in next weekend with freezing air in place.
The week of the 7th looks to start colder and finish milder. The up-and-down nature of the weather pattern generally gives us a chance for some wintry weather each week. The challenge will be lining up the cold with a storm.
The peak of the Hudson Valley’s annual snow depth curve is mid-February, after all!
