To the contrary of the proverb “in like a lion, out like a lamb”, March 2022 will open up on a relatively benign note.
Mid-January through February has felt like a marathon of winter weather, so a little break is just what the doctor ordered.
The question “is winter over?” may be bouncing around in your head. To that I say: not so fast. Put it this way, I’d be surprised if we didn’t have another opportunity or two for some wintry weather in the coming weeks. But the sun is starting to set on winter…
A Canadian cold front will cross the Northeast this (Sunday) evening. A passing snow shower or flurry is possible overnight, although it is not expected to cause any issues on Monday morning.
Monday will have bright sunshine but cold temperatures.
Tuesday, the first day of meteorological spring, and Wednesday will be milder with highs in the 40s.
The next front will pass on Wednesday night or Thursday morning, with scattered rain and snow showers possible. This will be followed by cold and windy but sunny weather on Thursday, courtesy of a Canadian high pressure system.
The dry spell will last at least three days until Saturday, with temperatures gradually moderating.
A period of milder weather could arrive next weekend into the week of March 7th as cold air focuses to the west, over the Rockies and Plains.
Looking toward the mid-month, some colder air could bleed eastward, bringing our next chance for a winter storm, but it’s a bit of a waiting game until then! ⏱️
Pools of blue
As promised last week, I have more summertime highlights from New Zealand to share. This week, we’ll venture to the Blue Pools, a dreamy spot deep in the wilds of the South Island.
As the name suggests, it’s glacial water featuring a magnificent blue color that almost doesn’t look real.
Pictured but not visible are thousands of sand flies, another New Zealand classic. If one of those happens to get stuck in your shirt sleeve, it’s at least a dozen bites (speaking from experience 😅).
I always have the GoPro on standby for an underwater shot. A few sand fly bites were worth it for the photo 😂
I hope your week is as splendid as the water ✨
