The scoop on Sunday-Monday

Last Sunday I wrote that the Hudson Valley’s snow-free days were likely numbered.

I didn’t know exactly when the streak would end, but now the answer is more clear: Sunday.

A disturbance that is currently over the North Pacific Ocean will swirl across the northern U.S. and into the Great Lakes on Saturday.

Because of a large, blocking high pressure system over eastern Canada, the disturbance will be forced southeastward on Sunday — right over us.

Once it hits the relatively warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday night, it will gain some extra energy, potentially culminating in a burst of snow for the Hudson Valley! 🌨️

While there is still some uncertainty as to how it will all unfold, I’ve outlined my initial thoughts below.

As of Thursday morning, here’s what we know

What? Light to moderate snow.

When? Starting between late morning and mid afternoon Sunday and ending early Monday morning.

How much? A few inches possible; a low chance for a more significant accumulation.

Will it stick? Temperatures in the low to mid 30s on Sunday may limit accumulation on roads initially, but falling temperatures may lead to deteriorating conditions on Sunday evening and night.

Impact? The potential for snow-covered and slippery roads, especially Sunday night. Monitoring the chance for school delays on Monday.

The details of this system, like timing and accumulation, will become clearer in the coming days, but hopefully this gives you something to work with!
