It reached as high as 85 degrees last week — the average high in mid-July 🥵

This coming week, it’s not expected to reach 70, with below average temperatures on most days. We’re well and truly leaving the summer-like weather in the rear view mirror.

During the week ahead, aside from the potential for some passing rain later on Thursday, it looks tranquil… until next weekend 🫤

Sometimes we get stuck in a rut of it raining about once-a-week, coinciding with the weekend. Although this may seem “unfair”, if you were to look at stats over the long-term, the odds for rain on any given day of the week would be about equal.

The cooler conditions will help with one thing: fall color! Peak fall foliage color is still a few weeks away 🍂

Monday: Breezy and cool with clouds and sun 🌬️ — a passing PM sprinkle can’t be ruled out

Tuesday: Similar to Monday, but a few degrees warmer…

Wednesday: Not bad! Mid 60s with a mix of clouds and sun 🌤️

Thursday: Clouds increasing; afternoon showers or some rain possible

Friday: Probably dry

Saturday-Sunday: periods of rain possible, some heavy, with gusty winds — the timing of the worst weather is uncertain as of this writing 🌧️

Cooler than average temperatures (🔵) will be in charge over the next 10+ days

The week of October 16th is looking cooler than average to start. It also looks drier than normal with high pressure gaining control after the weekend rain. No snow yet, but…

Views from the window seat 🛩️

This past week, my travels took me to New Zealand’s South Island, Christchurch to be exact, for a work conference.

I always root for clear skies on days that I fly, not because I want to avoid turbulence, but so that I can take in amazing views of the New Zealand countryside.

A cold front caused some high elevation snow the day before my flight, setting the scene for a wintry landscape.

The Auckland-Christchurch flight path goes directly over top the North Island’s tallest mountain, Mt Taranaki (8261 ft) 🗻

Out my window was the 19˚F snow-capped peak…

Farther south and closer to Christchurch, the lush, green Canterbury Plains give way to the snow-covered Southern Alps in the distance.

Have a great week and always choose the window seat! ✌️
