Hello there! I bet you’re tired of hearing from me 🙃
Another day, another winter weather event for the Hudson Valley. Over the last day, there has been a trend toward an earlier start time.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the entirety of the region from midday today until 10:00 am Wednesday.
The key question is: will it be cold enough for wintry precipitation today and where? The current temperature map shows how parts of the region are below freezing and others above freezing. This means that wintry precipitation could conceivably occur anywhere in the region with road conditions changing over short distances and with elevation.
What? A medley of precipitation, occurring on-and-off. Areas of sleet, freezing rain, and rain today becoming snow, sleet, and freezing rain tonight.
When? Starting between 9:00 am - noon today and continuing tonight. Ending Wednesday morning.
How much? Where it is cold enough, a glaze of ice is possible today. A coating to an inch of snow, mainly north of I-84, is also possible between today and tonight.
Impact? The impact today (Tuesday) will depend on the temperature. Where temperatures remain near freezing, slick conditions will be possible as precipitation develops between mid-morning and midday, particularly in elevated areas. Where temperatures rise several degrees above freezing, slippery conditions will likely be delayed until this evening or overnight. Tonight, sub-freezing temperatures across the region will come with rounds of light wintry precipitation and slick conditions. Temperatures are then forecast to rise above freezing by around 9:00 am Wednesday, with slick spots easing.
This event is complex, involving multiple precipitation types that will vary over short distances and elevation as well as borderline temperatures.
If you’re driving, leave plenty of distance between you and the car in front of you.
Spare a thought for all of those trying to safely navigate the weather today and tomorrow! It’s not an easy job during mid-winter in the Hudson Valley.
we will never get tired of hearing from you.
