Winter is a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourself, Mother Nature! The good news is that the marathon is only a few weeks from being over ☀️
The other news is that more snow is coming… on the heels of what was one of the most remarkable and memorable events I’ve forecast for in the last decade. A picture is worth a thousand words:
⚠️ This (Wednesday) morning, be mindful of black ice on steps, sidewalks, parking lots, and side roads — basically any surface that didn’t dry overnight could be a sheet of ice! I had some reports from Hudson Valley residents who slipped and fell because of the ice as well as others who reported clear and dry main roads. It’s a mixed bag out there. Abundant sunshine and a breeze today will help to dry things up.
Thereafter, the focus will shift to…
Thursday evening: a fast-moving clipper system will come with a swath of snow between 6:00 - 10:00 pm. Amounts will generally be an inch or less, highest north of I-84. On Friday morning, untreated surfaces will be slippery. At this point, because of the low snow amounts, the chance for delays is low-to-medium.
Saturday morning: another fast-moving system will probably swipe the region from the south. At this point, a coating up to 2 inches appears possible, with the highest totals south of I-84. Snow will likely end by mid-morning.
New ‘toy’: in my spare time, I design automated weather forecasting tools in Python, a computer programming language. My latest creation is an upgrade to my Hudson Valley snow bot, which you can follow here.
Four times daily, it sends out a message about the most likely Hudson Valley snowfall range over the next week, as well as the snowiest and least snowy possible scenario.
This information is then ported over to my website, where you see it in the form of a ticker if you scroll to the bottom of the home page.
I love coming up with unique and innovative ways of providing weather information. I think (hope!) this can be a useful way to consume the seven day snowfall forecast ‘at a glance’.
Let me know what you think and have a great rest of the week… no doubt you’ll be hearing from me again 😅
