I think most of us would sign up for a bit of cool weather if it meant that there wouldn’t be much rain.
Am I right?
Many of us would probably favor some proper “spring weather” rather than surging directly into summer-like heat.
It seems Mother Nature’s tantrum is over and she’s finally prepared to deliver some palatable conditions.
This week, the coconut will be (mostly) dry. Enjoy it! 🥥
But be warned: frosty conditions are possible on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday morning with temperatures near or below freezing 🥶
Monday: a chilly morning; plentiful sunshine ☀️
Tuesday: another cold morning; mostly sunny and milder 📈
Wednesday: partly sunny with passing showers likely; turning windy
🐧 Thursday: a morning frost possible; plenty of sunshine, cool, and breezy
🐧 Friday: a frosty start again possible; remaining sunny and dry
Saturday-Sunday: more clouds than sun with scattered showers possible, mainly later on Saturday (there is some uncertainty around the timing of the weekend rain, so keep an eye on the forecast if you have plans)
Looking ahead to the week of April 29th, there’s the potential for a warmup, especially early in the week. However, sustained warm weather doesn’t look likely at this point as rain-bearing fronts push it away.
🌟 Premium subscribers: next week’s report will come with an extended May weather outlook.
Two weeks in the tropics 🏝️
Avid readers of this newsletter would know that I’ve been checking in from Fiji rather than my typical home base of New Zealand.
If you’re new here, bula from Fiji!
Last week was my second and final week in the Pacific Islands, where I was assisting national meteorological services in the region with the climate outlook for the next six months.
Regional experts gather to discuss things like El Niño, rainfall and temperature patterns, sea level and tides, coral bleaching, and tropical cyclone (hurricane) activity in the Pacific. This regional information is then used to form the basis of national statements, which enable countries to be better prepared for the likely weather patterns that lay ahead.
These photos are from the spare hours I had in between meetings, writing reports, and collaborating with regional partners on important climate-related initiatives. One such initiative that I am helping to lead is the build of a new website for climate information in the Pacific region. It will combine products and services from several key organizations into a one-stop-shop for forecast and observational intel, hopefully to be launched later this year.
My last batch of Fiji photos will come through in next week’s report — be sure to check back for those!
Have fun in the sun this week ✌️
