School's out for summer… almost!
Graduation season is well and truly upon us and my phone has been dinging consistently with forecast requests.
⚡ Thunderstorm season coincides with graduation season and cloud-to-ground lightning is a real risk. As tempting as it may be to spend lots of time outside this time of the year, let photos like this one be a reminder that when thunder roars, head indoors. Another round of thunderstorms, some strong, is possible this (Sunday) evening ⚡
🧑🎓 While it’s not set in stone, things are currently looking decent for graduations later this week or coming weekend. A front currently timed to next Saturday night or Sunday looks unlikely to spoil festivities. In recent years, I have certainly seen worse graduation weather!
With a front coming through the region on Monday morning and another on Thursday, it won’t be as consistently hot or humid as it was last week. Considering we’ve had a six day heatwave (counting today), I think that news of less heat will be welcome news for most.
The chart below highlights the “spiky” nature of the humidity over the next 10 days, with a peak on Wednesday and again next weekend.
Long range data suggests that significant spells of heat will affect the region during July, especially in the middle part of the month. If you’re keen to learn more about the summer patterns that lay ahead, you can check out my recent premium post by clicking below.
Monday: windy and turning less humid with a mix of sun and clouds
Tuesday: very warm with sunshine, but not very humid
Wednesday: partly sunny, breezy, hot, and more humid with PM showers and thunderstorms likely
Thursday: turning less humid with plenty of sunshine
Friday: sunny with low humidity
Saturday-Sunday: warmer and becoming more humid with a mix of clouds and sun; a round of showers or thunderstorms is possible on Saturday night or Sunday
Looking ahead to the week of July 1st, it appears that heat will build as the week goes along. Mid-to-late July is looking very hot, even for the time of year 🥵
⛱️ All this hot, humid weather may have you yearning for a beach trip. Sea temperatures from Long Island to New Jersey are currently a refreshing 68 to 74˚F. The adventurous type might prefer a snorkeling trip. How about the Great Barrier Reef? I took these shots a few weeks ago during my Australia trip 🪸
Happy summer vacation and congrats grads! Wherever you’re headed, may the forecast be in your favor ✌️
