๐ด Hello there and welcome to the Hudson Jungle! We got fun and gamesโฆ the high humidity that developed a few days ago shows no signs of abating during the week ahead โ in fact, it will reach a peak from Tuesday-Thursday:
Take comfort in the fact that the Hudson Valley is not alone: whether you are in Miami or Montgomery, the week ahead looks similarly humid with maximum dew points above 75หF (a threshold for exceptional humidity).
Whatโs more is that remnant moisture from Hurricane Beryl will get tangled up in a front that may become stationary near the eastern seaboard from Wednesday onward.
Itโs like the region has become a part of the tropics ๐ฅต
A strengthening Beryl is expected to make landfall just south of Galveston, Texas as a hurricane early on Monday morning. It will bring a period of heavy rain, thunderstorms, wind, and storm surge to eastern Texas but its fast forward speed should confine the impacts to a 12-hour period. This, however, does not offer much solace to Houstonians who have suffered through a litany of weather extremes in recent months and years.
Monday: hot and humid, a stray PM shower or thunderstorm canโt be ruled out
Tuesday: hot and very humid; scattered PM showers and thunderstorms likely
Wednesday: very humid with heavy showers and thunderstorms possible later on
Thursday: extremely humid with scattered showers and thunderstorms still possible
Friday: the chance for showers and storms continues
Saturday-Sunday: high humidity and shower/thunderstorm chances may continue on Saturday before a potential reprieve on Sunday
Looking ahead to the week of July 15th, a shift from southerly winds to westerly winds may lead to slightly less heat and humidity.
Lastly, be grateful that the Hudson Valley hasnโt turned into Badwater Basin, Death Valley, where the mercury will soar to near 130หF over the next two days ๐ต
Winter in New Zealand โ๏ธ
Down under, thereโs not much heat and humidity to speak of! It reached a very cold 27หF at my house in rural northern Auckland this past week, the coldest temperature I have experienced in Auckland since moving here in 2016.
I was shocked to see icicles hanging from my window! Frost encased my car and covered the grass.
In New York, meteorological winter is just 147 days away. Iโm working on a premium post with several far-too-early maps highlighting possible patterns ๐
