The first hurricane of the season, Debby, brought heavy rain and one tornado to the Hudson Valley, an EF0 (the lowest rating), touching down along the Thruway near New Paltz, downing trees.
The next hurricane will be named Ernesto — its beginnings may be humble, but it will likely become a major hurricane, swirling off the U.S. East Coast late next weekend. The storm will affect the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic from Tuesday-Thursday.
The map below shows about 50 different possible locations for the hurricane next Sunday, August 18th — just about all of them safely offshore. Still, this system bears watching, because even a small shift west could cause impacts.
In the meantime, comfortable weather conditions for mid-August are expected in the Hudson Valley this week. In fact, it looks like the nicest week of the summer so far… at least until the weekend.
Monday: a mix of sun and clouds, low humidity; slight chance for a PM thundershower
Tuesday: partly sunny, similar to Monday temperature-wise
Wednesday: mostly sunny and turning slightly warmer
Thursday: mostly sunny, like Wednesday
Friday: warmer with a mix of sun and clouds
Saturday-Sunday: more humid with clouds and some sun and showers and thunderstorms possible, the timing of which is uncertain as of this writing
Looking ahead to the week of August 19th, a hurricane will likely be passing offshore early in the week, but the situation still needs watching in case something changes. Otherwise, it looks rather humid and unsettled. This could change if the expected hurricane moves slower or faster.

Natural Bridge, Springbrook National Park
Here are a few more photos from my recent trip to Australia, from a place called Springbrook National Park in Queensland.
Its claim to fame is a waterfall that drops down into a cave — and camouflage python snakes that visitors are warned about before their journey to see the falls.
Fortunately, we saw the waterfall and not the pythons.
I hope your week is equally serene and snake-free ✌️ 🐍
Thank you Ben! Stay safe!
Thank you! I hope you get some good snow storms this winter hoping a blizzard this year 🙏🙏
