Who’s on board with a few extra hours of sleep on Monday morning? 🙋♂️ 🙋♀️
It won’t amount to much, but the timing of Monday’s wintry mix means that slippery conditions are expected for the morning commute.
Winter weather advisories have been issued for the Hudson Valley, starting late Sunday evening and ending late Monday morning.
It’s looking like a coating to two inches of snow for most of the region, with the highest amounts occurring west of the Hudson River in Orange, Ulster, and Sullivan County.
A glaze of ice is also possible when the snow changes over to freezing rain or drizzle on Monday morning.
Ground temperatures are well below freezing across the region because of recent cold weather. Even as air temperatures rise on Monday morning, ground temperatures may lag behind, allowing icy conditions to persist.
I expect many schools to initially call for a delay on Monday morning, then reassess conditions after two hours to see if a closing is needed.
The maps below provide an indication as to how much snow and ice is expected.
The week ahead
After the wintry weather on Monday, Tuesday’s weather will take a 180 degree turn as sunshine and mild temperatures arrive.
A storm late Wednesday should bring mostly rain, though some wet snow can’t be ruled out in the higher elevations. A strong cold front on Friday night will set the stage for a particularly chilly and windy weekend.
Temperatures will range from 5 to 57 degrees this week! 😵💫
Monday: wintry mix changing to rain
Tuesday: mild and sunny 🌟
Wednesday: sunny skies turning to clouds and eventually rain
Thursday: cooler, breezy, and dry
Friday: more clouds than sun, chance for rain or snow showers
Saturday-Sunday: cold and windy! 🥶
What’s not cold and windy
What’s not cold and windy was New Zealand this weekend. The heat index reached 95 degrees at my house on Sunday! It was a good time to head to the beach (or falls) to cool off.
Looking ahead to the week of December 23rd…
