Hello everyone and welcome to the new subscribers! Glad you’re here.
A sloppy mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is headed for the Hudson Valley on Thursday morning. There are no significant changes to the forecast since yesterday, but here’s the latest:
A winter weather advisory is in effect from 4:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, warning of slick and hazardous road conditions during the morning commute.
Forecast for Thursday morning
What? Snow, changing to sleet and freezing rain.
When? Starting between 5:00 and 8:00 a.m. Thursday. Ending early Thursday afternoon.
How much? 1 to 3 inches of snow followed by a crusty covering of sleet and freezing rain of up to a tenth of an inch.
Impact? Road conditions will deteriorate rapidly during the Thursday morning commute and remain poor into the early afternoon. This brings a high chance for school closures regionwide. Temperatures will rise above freezing during the afternoon, leading to a gradual improvement in conditions. Above freezing temperatures on Thursday night will prevent a hard refreeze on Friday morning. Therefore, the chance for widespread delays on Friday is low.
Another winter storm will move in late Saturday and continue into early Sunday.
Outlook for Saturday night and early Sunday
What? Wintry mix.
When? Starting between 7:00 and 10:00 p.m. Saturday. Ending early Sunday.
How much? Several inches of snow followed by a covering of ice. The amount of snow versus ice is still uncertain.
Impact? Road conditions will deteriorate quickly late Saturday evening and remain snow covered and slippery into early Sunday morning. Temperatures will above freezing during the day on Sunday with improving conditions.
A third storm is possible early next week on Tuesday and/or Wednesday. More details will become available in the days ahead.
Finally snow this winter!
