The week ahead is looking cold and stormy. Here’s what to expect…
The week ahead
The storm from Tuesday into Wednesday has trended south because of a change in upper atmosphere patterns. However, it’s still possible that it snows enough from Tuesday night into early Wednesday for school delays on Wednesday in the Hudson Valley.
A second storm is expected from Wednesday night into Thursday.
That one is looking like a wintry mix, with some similarities to the storm last Thursday. At this early stage, I’d say Thursday could at least have school delays, if not more — depending on the timing of the storm.
Another storm could approach next weekend.
In between, it’s looking pretty chilly, with single digits, 10s, and 20s.
Monday: mostly sunny ☀️
Tuesday: increasing clouds, snow possible overnight
Wednesday: snow possible early, wintry mix arriving at night 🧊
Thursday: wintry mix during the morning, mild in the afternoon
Friday: mostly sunny and chilly
Saturday-Sunday: a wintry mix may develop on Saturday and clear by Sunday
Looking ahead to the week of February 17th, it’s not looking stormy to start. However, a storm signal develops around Thursday, February 20th. I’m keeping an eye on it.
Why has it been so stormy?
The weather has been so stormy because of big temperature differences from north to south across the country.
Big temperature differences fuel big storms.
An unusually strong jet stream across the United States has divided the frigid north from the balmy south - causing a very active storm track.
This temperature dichotomy will continue until February 20th or so, but could abate after that.
