March comes in like a lion 🦁
Update #643: strong winds and a temperature roller coaster to start March in the Hudson Valley.
Winter on Sunday, spring by Tuesday.
The only consistent thing about the weather this week will be its inconsistency.
In the Hudson Valley, temperatures will rise into the 50s as a midweek rain event washes away the salty remnants of snow storms past.
On that note, is the region done with snow for the winter? The clock is certainly ticking. Warmer conditions starting in the middle part of the month may bring an abrupt end to snow day season.
Although winter has been colder than average, snowfall has been below average across the Hudson Valley, with most areas in the 20-inch range for the season so far.
I’m hoping to include a spring outlook, for premium subscribers, with my newsletter next weekend. Click the button below to receive it.
And if it’s hurricane season you’re already wondering about, I’ve got you covered in my latest story for the Washington Post.
The week ahead
The week ahead will have steep temperature swings, strong winds, and a midweek rain storm in the Hudson Valley as a big storm spins across the country:
On Tuesday, a line of severe thunderstorms in the South may spawn tornadoes in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Blizzard-like conditions may occur from Kansas to Michigan from late Tuesday through Wednesday on the cold backside of the storm.
This storm will bring strong winds, but not severe storms or snow, to the Hudson Valley from Wednesday-Friday.
Monday: chilly with plenty of sun
Tuesday: milder with a mix of clouds and sun
Wednesday: cloudy, mild, and breezy with rain likely
Thursday: partly sunny, windy, and mild
Friday: windy and cool with some sunshine
Saturday-Sunday: a slight chance for rain or wet snow on Saturday (low confidence as of this writing), probably dry on Sunday
Looking ahead to the week of March 10, a trend toward much milder conditions is possible. Time to dust off your warm weather clothes! 🩳

Hope your week is less lion-like than the weather! ✌️
