Wintry chill returns — briefly
Update #648: it will feel more like February or March this week in the Hudson Valley.
The remnants of a deadly storm that has brought an onslaught of flooding and tornadoes across the Mid-South will limp across the Hudson Valley on Sunday and Monday.
The damp, cool conditions across the region will be largely unimpressive, with the storm losing steam as it moves east. Unless you count a wet snowflake or ice pellet during April as impressive.
A cold, Canadian air mass will sweep the storm, which has also come with record-shattering April heat in the South, out to sea on Tuesday.
Then, it will suddenly feel like winter again — for a few days — as nighttime temperatures dip into the 20s. Whipping winds will chill the air on Tuesday, making it feel more like February.
The late week weather could get pretty ugly. But rain is needed to ease long-term precipitation deficits.
You’ll want to keep your sweatshirt within arms reach all week — temperatures are unlikely to rise above 60 degrees.
The week ahead
The weather doesn’t get high marks this week.
Monday: damp, dreary, and cool — a few ice pellets or wet flakes can’t be ruled out, especially in higher elevations
Tuesday: a winter-like cold front will blast through the region 🥶
Wednesday: a cold start, but dry with some sun
Thursday: clouds return and rain might too before the end of the day
Friday: plenty of clouds with rain possible as a slow-moving storm potentially develops 🌧️
Saturday-Sunday: wet weather possible, particularly on Saturday 🌧️
Looking ahead to the week of April 14 and signs are that cool and warm conditions will probably alternate, giving the weather an extra changeable theme in the middle part of the month.
That means more wind. Did you know that March was the second-windiest March on record in New York? I’m sure you’re shocked.
Hold onto your hats… and jackets. Warmer weather is no where to be found.
