Humidity rising as atmospheric river flows north
Update #653: the week ahead will gradually get more humid, warmer, and wetter in the Hudson Valley.
There won’t be a lot of cloud-free days this coming week. But the silver lining is that it won’t be excessively hot like many other states and long-term rainfall deficits are easing.
Humidity, however, will be on the rise. You may start to feel it on Tuesday but especially from Thursday through Saturday.
It comes as an atmospheric river — like a river in the sky — moves up the Eastern Seaboard, towing moist air from the Caribbean Sea. The potent weather feature has caused tornadoes and flooding in parts of the Southeast and Florida with more to come through Monday.
I wrote about this river in the sky in the Post this week. Here’s a gift link if you’re up for some more reading.

It will be the country’s hottest week of the year so far, with 115-degree heat sizzling South Texas. Temperatures will be more manageable in the Hudson Valley, rising toward 80 degrees by Friday and Saturday.

The tornado risk will also really ramp up across the central states late in the week, fueled by higher humidity. Thunderstorms are possible in the Hudson Valley late in the week.
The week ahead
The week ahead will start dry, but turn more humid, warmer, and wetter in the Hudson Valley.
Monday: mostly sunny and pleasant 🥇
Tuesday: plenty of clouds and more humid with showers possible, mainly later
Wednesday: mostly cloudy with a chance for showers
Thursday: partly sunny, warm, and muggy with a shower or thunderstorm possible
Friday: warm and humid again with a passing shower or thunderstorm possible, mainly later
Saturday-Sunday: warm and humid Saturday, cooler Sunday; a bit of rain possible both days
Looking ahead to the week of May 19, it could be wetter than normal with clouds preventing hot temperatures.
Savor the sunshine this week ✌️
