Cool times ahead with a storm
Update #677: there will soon be a spooky chill in the air in the Hudson Valley, with a storm just before Halloween.
Well, that deescalated quickly.
Fewer than 20 days ago it was in the 80s in the Hudson Valley. This week, it may not reach 60! And a pre-Halloween storm is headed for the region. But don’t worry, it won’t be like this Halloween storm back in 2011:
Does this abrupt change in the weather mean that winter is going to be extra snowy this year? Find out in my just-released Hudson Valley winter outlook for 2025-26!
Hudson Valley winter outlook 2025-26
It’s hard to believe, but winter is just weeks away from arriving in the Hudson Valley.
The late-week storm will siphon some moisture from the tropics, where Hurricane Melissa rapidly intensified into a Category 4 early Sunday. Jamaica is expected to take a direct hit from a Category 5 Melissa on Monday — the most powerful storm to strike the country on record.
You can read more about it in today’s Washington Post. Here’s a gift link.

The week ahead
It won’t be too bad this week, if you don’t might cooler conditions and an occasional breeze.
Here’s hoping the late week storm will depart just in time for trick-or-treating! 🎃
Monday: there will be plenty of sun to start the day, before some clouds form later on
Tuesday: similar to Monday, just a few degrees warmer
Wednesday: a good deal of sun
Thursday: increasing clouds with a chance for rain later in the day
Friday: rain and gusty winds likely, especially early in the day; it could clear out by afternoon or evening
Saturday-Sunday: a blend of sun and clouds, looking decent as of this writing
Looking ahead to the week of November 3, another surge of chilly air could arrive. But it’s looking drier than normal, so probably no snow — yet!
Hope your week is filled with treats, not tricks! ✌️
