Wintry precipitation on Wednesday
Update #683a: Extra caution is advised on roads leading up to and through the afternoon commute on Wednesday in the Hudson Valley.
An approaching cold front will cause a period of wintry weather in the Hudson Valley on Wednesday, particularly after noon.
This wintry mix won’t amount to much, and I’m not expecting significant school disruptions, but some slippery roads are possible, especially in higher elevations and the Catskills, because it’s very cold.
It could be one of those days when students spot some snow out the window, become distracted, and ask if there will be an early dismissal 😉
Timing
Developing between mid-morning Wednesday and the early afternoon, ending in the evening.
Amounts
A coating to an inch of wet snow and sleet, particularly on unpaved surfaces, for most of the region. Up to two inches possible in the Catskills, including Sullivan and western Ulster Counties.
Impacts
With temperatures forecast to rise above freezing by midday Wednesday, main roads should be mostly wet as precipitation begins. However, freezing ground temperatures could allow for slick spots to develop, especially on untreated roads, side streets, and sidewalks. Extra caution is advised on roads leading up to and through the afternoon commute.
There is a chance, albeit minor, for early dismissals and school closings, the latter mainly in the Catskills.
Safe travels!
More snow is possible this weekend.
