Freezing air gradually fades
Update #684: It's going to be a frigid start to the week in the Hudson Valley, but milder air is on its way.
This header photo might be a little deceiving. It’s going to get milder later in the week, but we aren’t talking beach weather in the Hudson Valley.
But after Sunday’s snow and Monday’s wild chills, 40s and 50s will probably feel like beach weather.
Speaking of Sunday’s snow, it will end between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. from west-to-east. Most of the region looks to have received 1 to 3 inches, but a small jackpot zone in south-central Orange County, including Florida, Warwick, Washingtonville, and Monroe, might end up with a little more than that.

Dry weather is expected Monday through Thursday, with the exception of a flurry or snow shower Monday evening.
The next storm is forecast to arrive on Thursday night and last into early Friday. At this point, it looks like temperatures will warm up significantly enough for that to be a rain event, but I’ll keep an eye on it.
Temperatures this month have been around 8 degrees below average across the Hudson Valley, associated with an early season disruption to the polar vortex. The region is not alone: 225 million people across the United States have experienced well below-average temperatures so far this month.
The week ahead
The week ahead will start freezing but turn milder with some rain to wash the salt off the roads. At this point, I’m not expecting any weather-related school disruptions.
Monday: windy and cold with some sunshine and evening flurries and snow showers possible
Tuesday: a good deal of sunshine
Wednesday: noticeably milder with sunshine 📈
Thursday: mild with some sun; rain possible at night
Friday: windy and mild with rain possible early, followed by dropping temperatures
Saturday-Sunday: seasonably cool and looking mostly dry at this point; small chance for some rain on Sunday
Looking ahead to the week of December 22, the coldest air will probably remain to the north of the Hudson Valley. The region will likely have seasonably cool to occasionally mild conditions and be drier than average. It’s too early to predict the exact weather for Christmas Day, but odds don’t favor a cold, snowy one at this point.
Happy holidays and, as always, thanks for reading! 💚
