January thaw
Update #687: It will turn milder in the Hudson Valley this week, but there will still be a little snow.
This week won’t be without snow in the Hudson Valley, but there will be improvements in the temperature department — especially if you’re sick of the cold.
New York was the fifth-coldest state in the country last month and January has started where December left off.
As light snow fell early Sunday and will again on Monday, you’ll be wondering when this supposed milder air will arrive.
But by Friday and/or Saturday, the temperature could run up into the 50s, a feat that’s occurred just once since Thanksgiving in the Hudson Valley. Some rain will probably accompany the warmer weather, washing away salt and grime.
The possibility for light snow starting later Monday morning across the region is something to be aware of, but amounts of a half inch or less probably won’t be enough to cause widespread road issues. Higher amounts of up to an inch are possible near Albany, so take care if you’re traveling north.
Another system from Tuesday night into early Wednesday could bring a mix of rain and freezing rain, especially to elevated areas, but I think widespread icing is unlikely.
The week ahead
The week ahead will feature a transition from chilly to milder conditions, with a few weather systems and plenty of clouds.
Monday: light snow possible
Tuesday: mostly cloudy with some light rain or freezing rain possible at night
Wednesday: clouds lingering, but turning milder and breezy
Thursday: the sun breaks through, dry and rather mild
Friday: mild with clouds and the chance for some showers or rain
Saturday-Sunday: a mild start to the weekend with some rain possible before a cold front blows through
Looking ahead to the week of January 12, a mixed bag of conditions look likely. It doesn’t look excessively cold or mild and there are no strong snow signals at this point.

Hope you can shed a layer this week! ✌️

Thank you as always . Ben at one point you mentioned you were going to be living in the states again . Washington D.C, I believe , is that still happening ?
