Impatiently waiting for spring
Update #692: Meteorological spring starts in just a few weeks. It will soon turn milder in the Hudson Valley.
It’s another lovely morning in the Hudson Valley with wind chills approaching minus-20.
But hey, that’s a heat wave compared to Watertown, far upstate, where it’s minus-35. The air you’re breathing was over the North Pole 10 days ago. Great! 🙃
If it makes you feel better at all: I think this is rock bottom for this winter.
Can I get a show of hands of who’s ready for spring?
Meteorological spring starts in just a few weeks, on March 1. The astronomical season — the date you’re probably more familiar with — starts on March 20.
The weather this week looks like it’ll be stuck in the middle. Conditions will become less frigid, but temperatures will barely break freezing. However, it looks like Mother Nature is preparing to downshift and summon a little more power next week — when it will probably turn milder 🤞
The week ahead
Aside from the chance for a snow shower on Tuesday afternoon and flurries on Wednesday, the weather is looking pretty quiet this week.
Monday: a frigid morning, but plenty of sun
Tuesday: mostly cloudy with an afternoon snow shower possible
Wednesday: breezy with flurries
Thursday: remaining breezy with some sun
Friday: cold morning; clouds and sun
Saturday-Sunday: a moderating trend will probably be coupled with dry weather — but watching a storm to the south on Sunday
Looking ahead to the week of February 16, it looks like the moderating trend will continue! Milder air from the Pacific Ocean will stretch across the country, likely allowing temperatures to rise into the 40s in the Hudson Valley 📈
As someone wise once said, patience is a virtue ✌️

Hi Ben and thank you for the update. I thought I was getting used to sub-zero temps but not today. It's been so cold but my car has been starting and that's a plus. My cat likes to go out and sun himself on the porch but not this winter. He is a long hair but it's too cold for him.
