Slippery conditions Tuesday night and early Wednesday
Update #692a: Some snow and ice are expected in the Hudson Valley on Tuesday night.
Sorry, no rest for the winter-weary.
Mother Nature’s latest trick could make driving and walking tricky on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
A mix of snow and freezing is expected to develop across the Hudson Valley on Tuesday evening, lasting a few hours.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Timing
Snow and freezing rain are forecast to develop after 7 p.m. Tuesday and linger until around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Amounts
A glaze of ice with a coating of snow… perhaps up to an inch.
Impacts
Because it’s been so cold, ground temperatures remain well below freezing. That presents a dangerous recipe when mixed with freezing rain.
Consider adjusting your travel plans this evening and overnight if you can.
Icy conditions will probably linger into the morning commute on Wednesday, especially on side roads and on untreated surfaces.
This will bring a medium chance for school delays, although the relatively light precipitation amounts and early end time means that delays aren’t a sure thing.
Temperatures will rise above freezing on Wednesday morning, helping to melt any ice.
Stay safe!
