The saying April showers bring May flowers needs a small modification this year.
I’m prepared to go with April sun brings May flowers 🌼
The April sun felt like the July sun on Thursday and Friday when it reached at least 90 degrees on consecutive days. The 91 degree reading on Friday was the hottest temperature on record between January 1st-April 15th at the long-term climate site in Poughkeepsie, since records began in the 1930s 😮
Warmth and dryness has been a theme this month, but the coming week will come with some changes: not as hot with a few chances for rain 🌧️
We actually need the rain! If we don’t get decent spring rainfall, it will be difficult to avoid more wildfires and drought during summer, especially with an El Niño brewing.
For more on what El Niño has historically brought to the Hudson Valley during summer, check out my post from last week.
The week ahead:
Monday: some morning rain around, but a rather warm, sunny afternoon 🌦️
Tuesday: cooler and breezy but dry 🎐
Wednesday: like Tuesday, but not as breezy
Thursday: probably dry with a warming trend 📈
Friday: a warm one, but some showers may approach late 🌡️
Saturday: a front will bring a chance for rain, but how much and the timing is uncertain 🌧️
Sunday: lingering showers possible as a cooler pattern sets in 📉
Looking ahead to the week of the 24th, it looks like temperatures will generally be cooler than average with a few chances for showers. It doesn’t look overly wet, but the pattern may more closely resemble what’s typical of late March or early April, in contrast with our recent summer-like weather.
As you can see, there’s a bumpy road ahead! That’s what we expect this time of the year.
You can’t have a rainbow without a little rain 🌈
Important note: I’ll be traveling extensively over the next month, so my newsletter may not arrive at the same time each week or be shorter than normal. Where am I headed? Stay tuned! 😉
Hope your week is colorful ✌️
