It reached 89 degrees this past week in the Hudson Valley. Assuming it reaches at least 80 degrees today, it will be the 7th straight day with highs above 80 in Poughkeepsie.
As suddenly as summer-like weather arrived, it will depart! This coming week, weβll be lucky to reach 80 degrees twice.
Meteorological summer will arrive next weekend, on Saturday, June 1st. Just before that happens, a cool, Canadian air mass will move in on Thursday.
At least your classrooms wonβt be as hot!
Rain is also expected on several days: Monday (likely), Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday (medium chance), and possibly Sunday (low-medium chance).
If youβre wondering when summer-like weather will return, you can read my recently released Hudson Valley summer outlook β¬οΈ
Monday: mostly cloudy and muggy with morning showers turning into a steadier afternoon and evening rain, some heavy; a rumble of thunder possible π©οΈ
Tuesday: warmer but turning less humid with a dose of sunshine βοΈ
Wednesday: sunshine to start, then showers or a thunderstorm possible in the afternoon or evening
Thursday: breezy and cooler with sunshine
Friday: still on the cooler side and breezy
Saturday-Sunday: a dry start to the weekend looks likely before a chance for showers on Sunday; temperatures warming up a bit π
Looking ahead to the week of June 3rd and the outlook is for relatively warm -but probably not hot- conditions. However, the western U.S. is forecast to start to bake under a powerful ridge of high pressure β one that has brought extreme, record-breaking heat and humidity to Mexico, Texas, and South Florida recently. This high pressure system is forecast to expand eastward during mid-June. Serious heat may occur in the Hudson Valley in the not-too-distant future.
The following animation illustrates how above average warmth is expected to develop in the western U.S. and spread eastward at times during early June. A wave of high heat may sweep across the country in mid-June.
Now is a good time to make sure your air conditioning units are functioning! π₯΅
