Another mild week — mostly
Update #645: spring starts this week and it will feel like it most of the time.
Hello!
I hope you’ve been enjoying the rather mild weather. After a cold winter, temperatures have been 3 to 4 degrees above average during March in the Hudson Valley — and that will continue this week, generally speaking, with some sunshine to go along with it.
Elsewhere, the weather has been much worse.
Since Friday, a potent and widespread storm has spawned more than 60 tornadoes, dust storms, and wildfires, some of which were unfortunately deadly.
The highest number of tornadoes occurred in Mississippi, where the count was on 29 as of early Sunday.
As of early Sunday, the storm was headed east, bringing a risk for isolated tornadoes to the Carolinas and Mid-Atlantic throughout the day.
Rather mild conditions on Sunday in the Hudson Valley will be tempered by cloudy skies and spits of drizzle.
A heavy band of rain and wind will race through the region on Sunday evening, bringing some beneficial rainfall, with showers lingering into Monday morning.
The week ahead
The week ahead will quickly turn warmer before an abrupt but brief cool change on Friday. The spring equinox is on Thursday, which just so happens to be the predicted warmest day of the week.

A big warmup and looking ahead to spring
Hello! There’s a website that has redefined the seasons in New York State. Instead of having just four, there’s now 12. I can’t claim it to be scientifically precise, but it is scientifically entertaining.
Monday: clouds and showers linger early, then give way to some sunshine
Tuesday: plenty of sunshine 😎
Wednesday: like Tuesday, but a bit windier and warmer 😎
Thursday: turning even warmer, but with increasing late-day clouds and a chance for evening rain
Friday: much colder and windy, but it won’t last long
Saturday-Sunday: turning somewhat milder, looking generally dry as of this writing
Looking ahead to the week of March 24, weather conditions resemble a roller coaster. Sustained, above average warmth looks unlikely.
The highest temperatures over the next two weeks will probably be in the 60 to 70 degree range in the Hudson Valley.
I hope there’s a spring in your step this week!
Love the change of seasons.
