Not too hot — yet
Update #657: the week ahead won't be excessively hot, with most days in the 70s or 80s.
Last week featured an abrupt switch to summer-like warmth, with the Hudson Valley’s first 90-degree day of the season on Thursday. It occurred two days later than the average first date of June 3.
But it’s not sticking around: the week ahead will feature 70s and 80s rather than 90s, with several opportunities for showers.
In case you missed it, I recently published my Hudson Valley summer outlook. Find out about the season’s likely weather patterns by clicking below.
The region has so far avoided the worst of Canadian wildfire smoke, which has caused very poor air quality in the Midwest and ash to sprinkle out of the sky in Toronto. Remarkably, smoke from Canada has been transported over 5,000 miles to Russia and has been spotted in European skies.
The Hudson Valley looks to continue to avoid the worst of the smoke for now.
Meanwhile, in the South, dust from the Sahara Desert has caused hazy skies and dirty rain.

The week ahead
The week ahead will have relatively comfortable temperatures, showers, and extra clouds around — especially early and late.
Monday: a claggy start to the week, uncharacteristic of June
Tuesday: humid with more rain, especially during the morning; afternoon or evening clearing possible
Wednesday: probably the pick weather day of the week 🌟
Thursday: warm with a chance for scattered PM showers
Friday: not quite as warm as Thursday, still a shower chance
Saturday-Sunday: looking a bit damp or cloudy as of this writing…
Looking ahead to the week of June 16, there are signs that some high heat and humidity may build eastward, just in time for the summer solstice on the 20th. However, rain never looks too far away.
Looks like the Wallkill River.
