Summer solstice to usher heat, humidity
Update #658: Conditions will grow hotter and more humid in the Hudson Valley this week.
If you thought the weekends have been particularly rainy, you’d be correct.
This weekend marked the eighth consecutive weekend with measurable rainfall in the Hudson Valley, dating back to late April.
There’s a chance the streak ends next weekend! 🤞
And now, with the summer solstice on Friday, a familiar foe will return this week: high humidity. Friday will also have the longest day length of the entire year — around 15 hours, 11 minutes, and 3 seconds in the Hudson Valley.
The most humid days this week look to be Wednesday and Thursday, followed by a bigger surge from the weekend into the week of June 23.
The below map shows the highest humidity category expected over the next two weeks. In the Hudson Valley, it will reach “extreme” — but probably not until next week.

The week ahead
The week ahead will grow hotter and more humid with a few chances for showers and thunderstorms.
Monday: clouds and sun, coolest day of the week
Tuesday: turning more humid, chance for showers, mainly later
Wednesday: warm and humid with a passing shower or thunderstorm possible
Thursday: hot and very humid with a chance for afternoon and evening storms
Friday: not as hot as Thursday, probably dry
Saturday-Sunday: likely a warm, dry start to the weekend, with a hotter, more humid finish

Looking ahead to the week of June 23, conditions may be very hot and humid, especially early in the week.
Happy summer solstice! ✌️
